Mundane

Astrology

Mastery

Mundane astrology is the oldest branch of astrology and is still very relevant today.

Rather than focusing on an individual’s disposition, behavior and potential influences as natal astrology does, mundane astrology deals with large-scale events that affect nations, governments, cultures and societies.

Mundane astrology is concerned with understanding collective dynamics and patterns instead of individual destinies.

Today’s world feels more chaotic than ever, and mundane astrology offers a way to understand things from a wider, more philosophical perspective.

Just as natal astrology reveals a person’s inner workings, mundane astrology helps us “pull back the curtain” on world events, which in turn can provide a greater sense of agency during challenging times.

A little history…

Mundane astrology was first practiced thousands of years ago in Mesopotamia, whose most famous city was Babylon, a center of culture, politics and architecture in the ancient world.

From here—the “cradle of civilization”—mundane astrology carried forward through ancient Egypt and was further developed in Hellenistic astrology. Most rulers consulted astrologers for significant weather events and to determine what major actions to take.

The word mundane comes from the Latin word mundus, meaning world, which indicates its focus on the broader, worldly concerns that affect large groups of people.

Just as an individual’s chart is derived from their day, time and place of birth, mundane astrology looks at planetary positions at key moments (like the establishment of a nation), a ruler’s natal chart, the outset of a significant event and the timing of subsequent events.
