Scorpio Full Moon Illuminates the Hidden
These days, we hear a lot about spiritual awakening. Maybe you’ve had such an experience yourself when, either suddenly or gradually, things that used to be so important lose their thrall over you and a whole new, very different dimension to life is revealed.
Spiritual practices are great for widening our field of vision, shifting our perspectives and strengthening our faith. But let’s face it: A lot of people are just paddleboarding on the surface when the real connection only happens when we take a deep dive into…
Into what, exactly? That’s a great question to ponder at the Scorpio Full Moon (Tuesday, April 23 at 7:49pm EDT and over the following two weeks).
In modern astrology, we associate Scorpio with its two rulers (Mars and Pluto) and the eighth house. This Full Moon at 4º Scorpio is opposing the Sun, which is just separating from a bruiser of a square with Pluto… on the heels of the annual Venus-Chiron conjunction and the dynamite-throwing Jupiter-Uranus conjunction—and a pair of eclipses. In other words, there's a lot of transformational healing energy on tap.
People often ask me, “What will this do to me?,” which, if you know me, you know is the perfect question to launch a … well, you could call it a lecture or you could call it a spiritual pep talk.
The planets don’t “do” anything “to” you. There’s a synchronicity to their energetic emanations ("as above, so below") that becomes more readily available—and the more attuned and open and “empty” you can be, the more of their juicy offerings you can slurp up.
Take this Full Moon. Grounded earth-sign Taurus, the position of the Sun, is about taking practical action and wisely managing resources to build out your dream securely and sustainably. Scorpio, the Moon’s position, is also a fixed sign, meaning not quick to pivot, but it’s a deeply feeling and sensing water sign.
Like Taurus, Scorpio seeks to protect, but beyond than that, it’s seeking answers to life’s great mysteries. It’s less rational and linear, and more focused and intense. No wonder Pluto rules lasers.
So if the planets don’t do your biding, how you can work with them? Here’s where Scorpio energy, especially when it’s transmitted via an elucidating, illuminating Full Moon, is particularly helpful.
You can’t Google the answers you’re looking for. But you can “divine” them from within. You need quiet time, alone with your thoughts and feelings as well as with any energetic or somatic sensations that arise. Maybe an epiphany will strike straightaway. Maybe you need to be patient. Maybe you need to make turning in a habit.
Each Full (or New) Moon offers its own prompts: Use the keywords of the sign and any personal associations you have, like if a parent or partner has that sign prominently in their chart. And then approach it like a vision quest, asking yourself what about that vibration in your life would you like to change? Where do you need to be more self-assertive, what gets to go?
Remember, serpent medicine is about shedding old skin that can’t hold the greater energy that is emerging through us. Sometimes we discover that only minor—yet significant— adjustments are needed to align your actions with your vision.
