New Moon in Aquarius!

If you’ve been wondering what your next big move will be, or whether to do that thing in earnest, or to stop doing that other thing altogether… welcome to What’s Next!

Friday, January 24, is a powerful day, especially for people who feel stuck around a certain theme. (And hey, who doesn’t?) At 4:42pm ET, the moon aligns with the Sun in Aquarius, creating an energetic opening for quick release and new beginnings. We only get one of these a year, and this one promises to be extra-potent. Not only are the Sun and moon exactly conjunct, but they’re forming an activating angle to disruptor Uranus in “you’re gonna feel this” Taurus. And since Uranus rules Aquarius, its influence on the new moon is not to be underestimated.

Uranus is associated with many things, but the common denominator is change—whether you initiate it, or it, quote-unquote, happens to you. And we’re not talking “change the channel” or your hair color kind of change. This is Big-Deal, Radical, Life-Altering, WTF-level transformation. Why? Because not only is Uranus turning up the heat, but the secondary ruler of Aquarius (time-keeper Saturn) has been traveling in tandem with the other uber-agent of change, Pluto, meaning no status quo is safe.

It doesn’t matter whether you believe the planets cause events or reflect them; the throughline here is becoming inescapably clear: Things cannot remain the way they’ve been. I know you’ve been feeling that, on one level or another. Aquarius is an interesting sign in that it plays a dual role of being very personal—it rules groups of people and social interaction—and being global because it’s associated with world events, social justice and the digital universe. What’s going on now is truly an example of “so above, so below” or “so outside, so inside.”

Friday could bring some huge, unexpected events in your own life or perhaps in the headlines. Even if nothing significant transpires that day, pay close attention over the next two weeks to see—er, feel—what’s shifting inside you. What can you no longer continue to do, think, go along with or resist doing? Resistance may prove futile in the face of such intense Uranian and Plutonian influence. But seriously, why do you keep resisting what you know is inevitable—and for your own good?! Sometimes the figuring-it-out is the most valuable part of all because once you truly get it, it becomes harder to sustain the self-limiting behavior. And while awareness is key, it’s only useful when you act in accordance with it.

A good mantra for the next couple weeks is “breakdowns lead to breakthroughs.” Shake up your status quo or just throw it on the fire with your rainbow flame sticks. New moons are about fresh starts. This is an excellent time to take one significant step toward a very big personal goal—or an important community one since Aquarius is the sign of “think globally, act locally.” Begging the question: What is your next move?
